Fairview, TN

This Mexican restaurant is here in Fairview a suburb of Nashville. If you’re looking for a place to maybe have horses and some acreage on your property then this is the town to check out.

I’m here with Armando and Fernando, owners of Nando’s, to find out, “How did you get started?” (and, what’s your secret?)

Fernando of Nando’s: “We’ve been here almost two years.”

Brandy: “You wanted to start your own restaurant?”

Fernando: “The first restaurant like this we opened in 2017 beside Appleby’s in Dickson. We’ve been very successful there so we wanted to open one closer to where we live.”

Brandy: “What do you think your secret is in getting through Covid?”

1. Be Flexible

Fernando: “Technology. We partnered with ChowNow for delivery and curbside pickup.” They had made the decision right before Covid broke out to add this delivery ecommerce provider.

They were still moving through the learning curve of integrating this new technology into their Mexican restaurant process when the need for take-out sky rocketed. Their shift into a new vendor for this segment of their business proved to be extremely important and timely.

2. Be Willing to Change

“We ramped up on delivery.” Armando explained that they did a complete overhaul on their staff. They added enough people to cover the delivery category. They not only kept their staff through Covid but also added employees and expanded.

Leveraging their new online ordering processor, ChowNow, they increased their take out significantly. This allowed them to cover the deficit from less people dining in.

They also expanded their dining space. This allows for safe social distancing while still being able to provide the dine in experience for customers that want to eat in a Mexican restaurant instead of at home.

3. Customers are Friends

“We want to make our customers feel like family. I can say I have a lot of friends here and in Dickson. At the end of the day it’s not about the money. It’s about providing the best service.” And serving our friends.

You can tell from how Armando talks about his “friends” that his is 100% sincere. He cares about his family, his staff and his customers deeply. This drives him and Fernando to continuously seek out the very best ingredients, best technology and best delivery of their product – Mexican food – yum!
